Colt Creek State Park, FL
This trip was a last-minute weekend getaway, so we just booked anything we could find (likely someone else’s last minute cancelation). This was a lucky snag for us that opened our eyes to a new park. We will book here again if we are lucky enough to grab a spot. This State Park opened in 2007 and is located adjacent to the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve. The campground opened in 2018 and still sparkles a little with new amenities. When you arrive to check in at the ranger station, you can buy a shirt, sticker, rent a kayak, and buy ice and firewood. The ice and firewood are at the campground for easy pick up. This campground must have been designed with the help of a fellow RVer. The entire campground is open without a lot of wooded coverage, but also spaced out so the campsites feel private. The sites are spacious, have gravel, include picnic tables, grills and firepits, and all seem relatively easy to back in when you arrive. We wanted a weekend to relax and sit at our campsite, so the site fit our needs perfectly. Although, we did not do a lot of exploring during our stay, the park had over 20 miles of hiking trails and a lake to kayak and fish. This park was quieter than some we have visited and not as close to a “big city” for daytime exploring. Overall the park was beautiful and offered us exactly what we needed for the short weekend.
