Fort Clinch State Park, FL
Fort Clinch State Park is an amazing park to visit. It is located on Amelia Island in Florida near the border with Georgia. You can see Saint Marys, GA and the Cumberland Island National Seashore as you look across the Cumberland Sound into Georgia. Amelia Island is a great family friendly area on the coast of Florida, offering so many activities, including the historic downtown area, boating, Fernandina Beach, beautiful resorts, golfing and more. Of course, at the north end of the island, is Fort Clinch State Park. This park has everything, including, two dramatically different campgrounds, beaches, multi-use trails, a fort, and it is located on Amelia Island. We stayed on the beachside campground and enjoyed being able to walk right out onto the beach. The campsites are large and open with little cover, have water and electric hookups, near a very clean bathhouse, and have a dump station. Not all sites have 50 amp power, so be sure to pay attention to what you need when booking your site if that is a necessity. The river campground is on the other side of the park near the fort, located in a woodsy area with lots of protection offering the same amenities as the beachside. We did not stay on this side, but it did seem as though it would be a little more difficult navigating some of the sites with a large rig. The fort is located right on the water, has a museum and a gift shop, great for exploring, beautiful views, and a fun filled day for the whole family. The fort is very close to the riverside campground, but a drive or bike ride away from beachside. The same is true for the beach and the riverside campground. The staff at the ranger station won over our dogs with dog treats as we arrived, and it won us over too. We recommend checking out Fort Clinch, just be prepared to be have a hard time saying goodbye when your stay is finished.
