Wekiwa Springs State Park, FL

We stayed in campsite 35 at Wekiwa Springs State Park and will stay again. Overall the park offers everything that we are looking for when we stay in a state park. The campsites were large with lots of foliage, which offered some privacy from neighboring campers. The sites had a fire ring and picnic table in each site. All sites have electric and water, and although ours did not have sewer, many did. The campgrounds were clean and well maintained. As we walked around, we think we would choose an outer loop site in the future, but we only saw one site that we would not stay. It rained a lot while we were camping and site 31 flooded a bit. There is a lot to do at the park, including, miles of hiking trails, beautiful springs for swimming, and the river for kayaks and canoes. The area around the springs was truly beautiful, and a great area to enjoy a day. There are areas to swim, grill, canoe, a concession stand, and a store. We rented a canoe and went about a mile up the river before turning around. It was a picture perfect trip up the river. We went first thing in the morning to avoid some of the crowds. We also did a short hike and enjoyed the peacefulness of the park. There is tons of wildlife, we saw deer, a snake, an alligator, a wild turkey, and a million turtles. There were tons of warnings about bear sightings, but we did not see any near the campgrounds. If you will be there during the summer like us, you must plan ahead. The park is popular, so book far in advance. It is also draws large day guest crowds often reaching guest capacity, closing the park on most weekends. The good news is, the rangers close the park when the parking lot is full, so while the springs are crowded, it does not get out of control. As a registered camper, you will be allowed back in, but might not be able to get through the lines in a timely manner. We think it is worth the planning and recommend it to everyone!
