Our First RV “Test” Trip…
We finally purchased our new travel trailer. I say finally because we have been thinking about this for a long time and talking about it just about every day for the last couple of months. We talked, we watched RV shows, we shopped, we searched online, and most importantly we made lists! This was a hard decision for us in part because I am not a camper. Ask anyone that knows me and the first reaction to this new adventure was confusion followed by telling me that I do not camp. They are not entirely wrong, but it is also true that I love the outdoors, the beauty of nature, hiking, exploring, adventures, and sitting outdoors drinking wine. I just also like air conditioners, electricity, bathrooms, refridgerators, walls, etc… My husband loves the outdoors. Period. The Wolf Pup 16FQ combines everything so that we can both just enjoy the adventures. Our choice is “cozy”, but super affordable. It is towable with our Jeep Cherokee Sport with tow package, so we didn’t have to buy a larger vehicle. It will allow us to get out quickly for weekends and bring the dogs. Perfect for what we want right now.
As soon as we had it, the excitement to get out and use it could not be contained. We live in Orlando, so we decided to take a last minute reservation at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. It seemed like a perfect camping “test” for us and the trailer. If we forgot something or didn’t know how to do something, we would be close to lots of resources. And truthfully, I am a Disney addict and have always wanted to see what all of the fuss was about at the fort. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
We were able to practice setting up everything. We identified the things we didn’t need to bring, and the things we forgot. The biggest thing we didn’t have was a mat to put in front of the camper. We have two little dogs, who did not like to sit on the gravel one bit (they have become accustomed to a certain lifestyle). We also quickly realized that we need backsplash to protect the walls from water around the sinks and shower. We added a million things to our wish lists, including endless vacation time to enjoy the RV life. Overall, things went very smoothly. We set up, enjoyed the campsite, grilled dinner, drank wine, and slept pretty well the first night (even sharing the bed with the dogs).
As for Fort Wilderness… It was AMAZING! All of the fuss is because it has everything! The campsites are set up well, they have all of the hookups, great amenities, general stores, activities, restaurants, and a horse ranch. The activities just do not stop, including extra activities that change over the seasons. We do not have children, but all of the kids were having a blast with the bikes, canoeing, and pools. You can camp in a tent, an RV, or a cabin. As an extra bonus, you can walk down to the marina in the evening and watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We enjoyed it so much that we booked another weekend in December, because we hear the holiday decorations are amazing.
This was a great test and just made us more excited to get out in our camper. We have already started booking weekends to fill up 2019!
